During the month of May, many people participate in what’s known as #MerMay. It’s a celebration of creativity in which artists create a drawing of a mermaid every day based on a prompt. It’s been running for a few years now, and has gained a lot of popularity over on Instagram.
There’s even a website for it, if you’re interested in learning more!
Now, I love mermaids. I’ve written one short about them already (currently out of print) called FOLKTALES. I have several drafts of mermaid stories sitting on my computer. I have a commissioned piece of art in my hallway that’s about scary mermaids.
Something about them calls to me. However, that’s what they’re meant to do.
That brings me to my newest project; ASH.
During the month of #MerMay, I have released something called ASH.
An Interactive Flash Fiction piece, ASH is about a mermaid named Sialla. She’s been tasked with something very important, and must find the source of the Deadening Zone; her home corals are dying.
It’s about 850 words with two narrative branches. It originally started as a series of Tweets in 2019.
For 2020, I wanted to bring new life into it, and so this was born.
The short game has been released on my itch.io.
I may be taking a break and reconsidering Patreon as a platform for me. Perhaps it’s just time to move on, maybe I’ll stick with it.
I’m just going to need some time to make the decision.
What About Those Reviews?
As mentioned in a previous post about them, I’ll still be doing them in this order: Love Bites by Magen Cubed, Coffee Boy by Austin Chant, Robins in the Night by Dajo Jago, Their Troublesome Crush by Xan West, and Knit One, Girl Two by Shira Glassman.
However, they’ll come later. I’m not worrying about getting things done on time right now, because my life is a mess. They will get done, but with my indecision with Patreon it doesn’t seem worth it to do it with urgency.
I need to rest.
Moonstone and Others…
Moonstone may get a permanent home on my website when finished. In fact, I plan on making all of my content across the web available here soon.
That means all of my Patreon exclusive shorts (Manipulated, Prince of the Sea) will be available to read here. They’ll be free of a paywall as they are now. However, like everything else, I have to wonder when it will happen. Will I get to it soon? Later? Never? Who knows!
What I do know is that I’m going to try and hold myself accountable for it.
In the end…
Time is meaningless. It marches ever forward without purpose. I wish I had answers for when I’ll have these things finished, but I do not.
Please continue to be patient with me.
